FBR Tax Slabs 2026-27 and 2025-26 — What Changed

This calculator supports both FY 2026-27 (Budget 2026, effective July 1 2026) and FY 2025-26. The new 2026-27 slabs -- announced June 12, 2026 -- cut rates on four brackets, add two intermediate slabs between PKR 4.1 million and 7 million, and fully abolish the 9% surcharge that previously applied above PKR 10 million.

Why "Progressive" Means Only the Excess Gets the Higher Rate

A common misunderstanding treats crossing into a higher bracket as taxing your entire income at that higher rate. In reality, each bracket's rate applies only to the portion of income falling within that specific range -- income up to PKR 600,000 is always tax-free regardless of total income, the next bracket's rate applies only to income between 600,000 and 1.2 million, and so on.

The 9% Surcharge for High Earners

For taxable income exceeding PKR 10 million annually, an additional 9% surcharge applies on top of the calculated income tax itself (not on the income), a detail this calculator factors in for applicable income levels, reflecting the officially notified surcharge provision for the 2025-26 tax year.

This Is General Calculation, Not Personalized Tax Advice

Individual circumstances -- specific deductions, filer versus non-filer status, applicable exemptions, teacher/researcher reductions, and other personal factors -- can meaningfully change actual tax liability beyond this general slab calculation. Always verify your specific situation against current FBR guidance or with a qualified tax professional before filing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both FY 2025-26 (July 2025 - June 2026) and FY 2026-27 (July 2026 - June 2027), selectable from the dropdown. FY 2026-27 includes the Budget 2026-27 changes announced on June 12, 2026 -- reduced rates on 4 slabs, 2 new intermediate slabs, and full abolition of the 9% surcharge.
This is the officially notified exemption threshold for the 2025-26 tax year -- annual taxable income at or below this amount owes no income tax for salaried individuals. This threshold itself can change in future Finance Acts.
Each slab's rate applies only to the portion of income within that specific bracket, not your entire income -- a common point of confusion. Someone earning slightly above a bracket threshold doesn't suddenly owe the higher rate on their whole income, only on the amount exceeding that threshold.
Yes, a 9% surcharge applies on the income tax amount itself (not on income directly) for individuals with taxable income exceeding PKR 10 million, which this calculator factors in for applicable income levels.
Tax law changes annually through the Finance Act, individual circumstances (deductions, exemptions, filer status, specific allowances) can significantly affect actual liability, and this calculator handles the general salaried slab structure only -- it is not a substitute for official FBR guidance or professional tax advice for your specific situation.
