Efficient Iteration, Not Slow Recursion

The Fibonacci sequence's textbook definition is recursive, but calculating it that way directly recalculates the same values repeatedly, becoming impractically slow as term count grows. This generator iterates forward, storing each value once, producing the identical mathematically correct sequence far more efficiently.

The Golden Ratio Connection Is Real, Not Approximate

As you move further into the sequence, the ratio between consecutive terms converges ever closer to the golden ratio (φ ≈ 1.618033...) -- a genuine, well-established mathematical relationship that becomes more precise with more terms, not a rough approximation that only works for small numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each number is the sum of the two preceding ones, starting from 0 and 1 -- a simple recursive rule (F(n) = F(n-1) + F(n-2)) that produces a sequence with surprisingly wide-reaching mathematical and natural patterns.
Naive recursive calculation recalculates the same earlier values repeatedly, becoming extremely slow for larger term counts. Iterating forward and storing each value as it's calculated is dramatically more efficient, producing identical results without the exponential slowdown.
The ratio between consecutive Fibonacci numbers converges toward the golden ratio (approximately 1.618) as the sequence progresses, a genuine and well-documented mathematical relationship, not a coincidence or approximation specific to small numbers.
Branching patterns in plants, spiral arrangements in shells and flower heads, and certain population growth models all exhibit patterns related to Fibonacci numbers, which is part of why the sequence holds broader interest beyond abstract math.
JavaScript's standard number precision handles a substantial number of terms accurately, though Fibonacci numbers grow large quickly, so extremely high term counts may eventually exceed safe integer precision.
