How to Use This Tool
Random Comment Picker is a free online tool that works entirely in your browser — no signup, no data uploaded, no limits.
Fairness Matters When Real Prizes Are on the Line
Manually scrolling through comments and picking one "at random" is genuinely difficult for a human to do without unconscious bias. A giveaway that's supposed to be fair deserves an actually fair selection mechanism, not an approximation of randomness filtered through human attention patterns.
This tool uses crypto.getRandomValues(), a cryptographically secure random number source, to give every entry a genuinely equal chance of selection, regardless of position.
YouTube Link Mode -- Real Comments, Officially Fetched
For YouTube specifically, paste a video link and this tool calls the official YouTube Data API v3 server-side to fetch real, current comments from that video -- no manual copy-pasting needed. The API key stays on the server and is never exposed to your browser. This uses YouTube's free quota (10,000 units per day, with comment fetching costing very little of that quota), the legitimate, ToS-compliant way to access public comment data.
Why Instagram and Facebook Still Require Manual Pasting
Instagram's and Facebook's official APIs deliberately restrict comment access to content you own or manage as a verified business account -- they do not provide a way to fetch comments from an arbitrary public post URL, even a free one. This is a platform-level restriction built by Meta, not a gap in this tool. For those platforms, copying the comments you want included and pasting them into this tool's manual mode remains the only available approach.
Multiple Winners and Duplicate Handling
Selecting several winners for a multi-prize giveaway draws without replacement, so no single entry can win more than one prize. The duplicate removal option handles cases where the same commenter appears multiple times, ensuring they're counted once rather than getting an unfair multiple chance at winning.
